A Cargo of Green Hearts
~POEMS~

6/1/2014

6/3/2014

when the river ice has given up gone out
     for good at last
gone forgotten like a half-hearted kiss
     gone forgotten as yesterday
I lay myself down naked upon the jade
     bladed fields stretch
myself long longingly under a potassium
     moon stretch myself
like a river or a love-thought that goes
     out out but keeps
coming in. there is nothing like the feeling of becoming
alive again of finding myself on this earth fit to
live fit to bury myself like a plant
in the sumptuous possible dirt. I am too
large for my house
and belongings I belong to everything
and everything to me
    for instance bears lumbering along
primitive trails sniffing for
spring grasshoppers and I am like them
hungry and tired of long sleep
groggy for honey for instance underfoot
the candycane trillium nods
brilliantly like a monk's head burst
open in tongues at the brush of
god's smallest finger and I am like it
busted broken into wholeness less
me and more of all of this and this
surrendered to the very air. as we
have been told again and again for which
we suffer and suffer until we
     see no separation no
otherness this selfish I melted torn loose
to the sea where we all go to when we
die and why wait for that final
ice-out why not go now right now alive
along the moon-railed path where
the barred owl elevates its misunderstood
resolution above the
night's misunderstood domain and like it
these feelings will not
shut up not stutter silent at the
termination of light but sing hoot
poorly and half mad as they may
of morning rising and my name nameless.
